**Position Purpose**


The VP, Engineering will establish the overall objectives, initiatives and philosophies of a top-notch engineering department and lead the Product Development and Engineering teams in the development of new and innovative products and the improvement of existing products. This individual will oversee the engineering, quality and product development teams ensuring cross functional collaboration and maintaining strong relationships with critical partners in the industry in order to support & collaborate on product procurement strategies.


They will utilize proven or potential new methods to create an environment that fosters an innovative mindset while using technology and trends to compliment and develop growth strategies. They will oversee and implement a quality standard .


As an Extended Executive Strategy Team member, this individual will ensure their team thoroughly understands and prioritizes the voice of the customer and our business strategy to produce top quality product requirements at the appropriate pace. In addition, the VP, Engineering must be effective at leading through others, demonstrating sound strategic and analytical thinking, and maintaining good stakeholder communication internally, externally, and with top-level executives. They must have a roll up your sleeves attitude and mindset balanced with a high-level strategic perspective.


**Duties and Responsibilities**


+ Responsible for the communication of the corporate vision and strategy to establish the engineering, quality, product procurement and global direction, vision and focus.

+ Execute multiple high impact initiatives in multiple industries to achieve overall corporate goals.

+ Responsible for ensuring that consistent processes and project management standards are followed and/or developed in alignment with company strategies.

+ Lead a team that can effectively collaborate and build strong relationships with operations, product management, marketing and sales managers to drive key strategies.


+ Demonstrate excellent communication skills and the ability to connect and develop effective working relationships with other stakeholders across the business.

+ Lead the team through strong and experienced management and mentorship.

+ Develop requirements and procedures to ensure that quality standards are met and consistent.

+ Prepare and optimize budgets; develop annual business plans and long-term roadmaps.

+ Recommend and lead approved technological developments, innovation and improvements in inefficiency.


+ Develop the team and overall structure to ensure high quality standards are met and resourced to achieve desired results.

+ Build a high performing culture through the development & coaching of direct reports and their teams.

+ Manage resources, schedules, and financials that adhere to stage gate guidelines throughout the full development life cycle. This also includes management of challenges, risks and project change requests to ensure successful and on-time project delivery.

+ Act as a facilitator to ensure project sponsors and decision makers have appropriate project-related information, project decisions and actions are made within necessary timeframes and project ownership is assigned to and prioritized by appropriate partner teams

+ Develop ideas for new products or product enhancements; fostering the creation and improvement of products (lines) researched by the engineering department working in tandem with marketing. This role will provide engineering expertise and consult to other departments, such as marketing, where needed.

+ Develop a make versus buy philosophy and evaluation method to focus internal effort on core competencies while maximizing financial impact.

+ Guide engineering teams to ensure key project milestones are met, including defining functional specifications, establishing timelines and success criteria, managing participation in stakeholder meetings, helping the senior leadership team understand and evaluate tradeoffs and ensuring appropriate information flow across teams and functions

+ Guide product procurement and global team to maintain and source new relationships in industry, meet key performance metrics centered around product procurement strategies and keep a pulse on global procurement strategic initiatives, relationships and negotiations.

+ Manage milestone completion and contracts for the negotiation of contractor, vendor and business relationships as needed to ensure the success of key projects for the long term while balancing long term integral partnerships

+ Perform other duties and projects as assigned


**Qualifications**


+ Bachelors Degree in Engineering with substantial project management, manufacturing, product development and quality experience or other business-related field with a strong technical background and aptitude for process improvement

+ At least 10 years experience in management with at least 5 years of product/project management experience in business process and product development

+ Strong global business acumen and experience

+ Highly collaborative, team-oriented and strong consensus builder

+ Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Project and PowerPoint

+ Ability to engage and influence stakeholders outside their direct channel

+ Comfortable leading project working groups and possesses strong facilitation and data gathering skills

+ Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, both written and oral

+ Strategic thinker with strong business analysis and planning skills
