**Site Welding Subject Matter Expert (SME)**

We have opportunity in LAO Technical Expertise & Support (TES) Organization, this position will be responsible for providing technical expertise in Welding & NDE for design, construction, compliance, inspection and maintenance of LAO assets. The position will be responsible for supporting the development, implementation, and ongoing management of the LAO TES Technical Support (TS) Organization Welding Programs, including: procedure and process development, problem solving, supporting innovative continuous improvement initiatives, conducting field audits, and participating in vendor shop quality audits.


* Reviewing and checking welding procedures, engineering design, and fabrication drawings to ensure they conform to industry codes, clients standards, and specifications;

* Interpreting and reviewing technical specifications related to welding and NDE;

* Guiding, Mentoring and Directing 3rd party contractors i.e. AWS-CWI (Certified Welding Inspectors) through project & maintenance activities;

* Ensure that contractor welders are properly tested by 3rd party contractor AWS-CWIs and are qualified per API-1104 welding code requirements.

* Provide support and technical assistance in qualifying welders for In-Service Welding Applications per API-1104 welding code requirements;

* Developing and implementing quality management processes and systems in relation to welding and NDE;

* Providing technical support to field construction inspection personnel on construction or maintenance projects;

* Providing technical input for construction & Maintenance practices and procedures;

* Able to work with multi-discipline engineering teams in the support of quality management procedures;

* Develop, implement, and monitor performance measures;

* Assist in timely and effective implementation of the project quality management programs;

* Evaluate new internal company procedures for adoption by the LAO TES Organization;

* Assist in training, coaching and stewardship of the Welding & NDE programs within the Site.

* Train and coach project personnel on the Quality Management Systems & Programs with regards to Welding & NDE;

* Lead or participate in internal field construction audits and vendor shop audits surrounding Welding and NDE;

* Identify and record quality problems; quantify the cost of poor quality;

* Conduct Root Cause Analysis on identified problems;

* Initiate opportunities for improvement and solutions;

* Work closely with departments and support timely review of documents or issues requiring QA actions;

* Lead continuous improvement initiatives;

**Education / Experience**

* Welding Technology, Engineering or Business Degree, or Associate

degree in business administration or technical field preferred;

* 10 Years construction/welding experience in the Petro/Chemical industry preferred;

* Knowledge of design, construction, and operation of Petro/Chemical systems required;

* Knowledgeable in welding and NDE requirements for facilities & pipelines in relation to design, inspection and maintenance activities preferred;

* AWS-CWI (American Welding Society Certified Welding Inspector) and API-1104 Certifications preferred. Must be willing and able to obtain AWS-CWI within 6 months of hire date if not already certified.

* Pipeline Construction Inspector Certification (API-1169) preferred;

* Familiarity with fabrication practices preferred;

* Working knowledge of US welding codes and regulations required;

* Familiar with automated ultrasonic testing, radiography and other NDE methods preferred;

* Knowledge of mechanized welding processes and their application to high strength steels preferred.

**This position requires candidates to:**

* Have and maintain a valid driver's license;

* Be available for overtime, extended work hours, and call-outs as needed;

* Travel to other company locations for temporary assignments, meetings or training which would involve some overnight stays away from home.
